Bloomsday at Northlight: 100 Years of Ulysses + Des Hurley & Friends
Join us at Northlight Arts Centre for a relaxed Bloomsday evening of Irish film, traditional music and good company.
We’ll be screening 100 Years of Ulysses, a one-hour documentary made to mark 100 years since the publication of James Joyce’s extraordinary novel. The film was devised by the late historian, barrister and Joyce scholar Frank Callanan, and produced and directed by Ruán Magan.
100 Years of Ulysses sets out to open up one of the most famous, challenging and talked-about books of modern times. You do not need to have read Ulysses to come along — the film is an accessible way into Joyce’s world, his ideas, and the lasting impact of the novel.
Doors open at 6.30pm, with live traditional Irish music on arrival. The film starts at 7.30pm and runs for about an hour, followed by more music from Des Hurley and friends.
Des Hurley is a well-known figure in the Irish music scene locally, and we’re delighted to welcome him to Northlight for this special evening.
The event is presented in collaboration with the Irish Arts Foundation. We are making the evening Pay As You Feel, with donations helping Northlight costs.
Expect a warm, informal evening with film, live music, conversation and a drink from the licensed café bar.
Pay What You Feel / Booking essential.
