16mm Creative Workshop: Tear it Up! (18)
Taking inspiration from the ways in which Punk agitators radically reconfigured outmoded conventions of rock music language, we will approach the making of an abstract 16mm film using collaborative and playful principles. Considering the filmstrip as a surface for collaging and creative destruction, we will re-purpose and reinvigorate found visual ephemera in order to question and distort perceived meanings around images and their consumption. Thinking about the interrelation between creation and destruction, we will experiment with ways to push the film strip to the edge of its capacities: scratching into the emulsion, and applying paint using embodied, tactile techniques, and embracing chance and spontaneity as editing tools. The collaboratively made 16mm film will be presented at the close of the workshop.
No prior experience of analogue filmmaking required. As we will be working with paints, it is suggested that you bring an apron or wear older clothes!
This workshop is limited to 8 people only, so book early to avoid missing out. The workshop will run from 10am – 1pm with a break.
There will be a screening of The Garden (1990) presented by Lydia on the same day at 14:40. Workshop attendees will be offered a free ticket to this event. Details here.
