The Blue Trail (15)
Set in near-future Brazil where the government prioritises productivity above all else, elderly citizens are forcibly relocated to remote colonies to make way for younger generations. 77-year-old Tereza is forced to retire from her job and placed under the guardianship of her daughter, but she refuses to comply. Choosing freedom over submission, she embarks on a transformative journey through the Amazon, a decision that will change her destiny forever.
Winning the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize Berlin International Film Festival and just missing out being Brazil’s submission for the Oscars (which was the equally brilliant The Secret Agent), The Blue Trail is both political and unsentimental but also a transfixing and sometimes profound human journey.
