Wine&Sculpture: Meet the Artists
Sustainable Sardinian wine company Terra Sarda Wines are back for the third
in a series of unique collaborations with The Sculpture Gallery, Leeds, on September 3.
Held inside the exhibition space at the city’s iconic Corn Exchange, these special occasions bring guests and artists around the table for a relaxed evening of tasting and shared storytelling.
Five Sardinian wines from family vineyards, including a rare organic red, made from 100-year-old grapes grown on a sandy beach, will be accompanied by cheeses from Metz Cheesemonger and traditional Sardinian breads.
“Each wine has its very own tale to tell – about Sardinian people, culture, history and landscape – and, as storytellers, we try to tease out the narrative threads that connect them with our audience,” says Terra Sarda Wines’ Co-founder, Sue Scott. “Who knew that Sardinian Bronze Age sculptors were importing Cornish tin, for example! It’s fun to speculate on how they got it there and what they traded in return for it… wine perhaps?”
Mandy Long and Steve Williams will be the featured artists in September, sharing their very different creative journeys in stone and paper clay sculpture, respectively. They will also explain why the gallery is such a vital venue for 3D art in the north.
The event extends Terra Sarda Wines’ sponsorship of the Gallery, which opened in 2022 as the only sculptor-run, independent space for artists to display and sell their work. Free to visit, every month it spotlights a different sculptor from the northern region.
Wine and Sculpture: Meet the Artists starts with a private viewing of the current exhibition at 5.30pm, accompanied by some special Sardinian bubbles before the full tasting begins at 6pm on Thursday September 3.

“I attended a wine tasting at The Sculpture Gallery in Leeds Corn Exchange, with Sue doing the presentation. I haven’t attended a wine tasting session before, but I would strongly recommend the experience!”
